Review: To Catch a Killer Film Thriller Yang 'akhirnya' Jadi Rumit

Perspektif ini membuat Lammark tertarik menugaskan kembali Eleanor sebagai penghubung BPD ke FBI. Dari sinilah , film mulai bergerak melalui langkah investigasi seperti yang saya harapkan.

Eleanor seperti meminjamkan kemampuan otaknya kepada Lammark dan timnya, termasuk Agen FBI Jack Mackenzie (Jovan Adepo) yang cukup karismatik. Sayangnya, pada momen tertentu;  obrolan makan malam antara Lammark dan suaminya Gavin (Michael Cram), berubah menjadi dialog dikte yang basi.

Lammark yang gay, seperti merasa menjadi polisi kepala batu dan stereotip. Ada upaya juga untuk memposisikan Eleanor sebagai “Clarice Starling ( Silence of the Lambs) modern”.

Tapi Woodley sangat jauh dari kemampun itu.

Thriller To Catch a Killer terlalu leluasa untuk sibuk dengan unsur kejiwaan Eleanor yang mengaburkan  tujuan film itu sendiri. Keseruan untuk mengungkap dan mengejar pelaku hanya terbatas pada ‘jika kesempatan ada’.

Endingnya sebagai babak penutup To Catch a Killer  Killer membunuh penontonnya sendiri dengan gaya yang hambar. Keseruan yang seharusnya menjadi penutup sebagai bukti film ini sukses dengan desain ceritanya, tak sama sekali diberi ruang.

Film ini hanya memadati raung kritik dan dikte, betapa kerusakan sistem korup yang telah merusak banyak hal. Termasuk merusak karakter film itu sendiri. (Q2)
