POJOKSINEMA – Bagi anda yang sangat menggemari film horor berbasis creatures atau makhluk kasat mata yang jahat, film “The Windigo” masih layak untuk ditonton.

Meski anda tak perlu berharap lebih untuk flavour film ini. “The Windigo” atau lebih populer dengan sebutan wendigo, adalah sosok makhluk jahat yang sangat terkenal.

Legenda ini ada dalam cerita beberapa suku Indian berbahasa Algonquin seperti Ojibwe, Cree dan  Saulteaux,  di Amerika Serikat. Meskipun banyak perbedaan tentang detailnya, tapi semua sepakat, Wendigo adalah makhluk gaib yang jahat yang melahap daging manusia.

Karakter makhluk jahat seperti ini sudah sering muncul dalam banyak film dengan kualitas penggarapan beragam. Banyak dari cerita seperti ini berdasar kepada legenda rakyat.

Meski banyak juga hasil imajiner penulis buku maupun film. Naskah “The Windigo” ditulis oleh Brent Jordan dan disutradarai oleh Gabe Torres.

Menceritakan seorang nenek buyut (Casey Camp-Horinek) yang terbangun dari mimpi buruk masa lalu saat Wendigo  membantai leluhurnya. Merasa resah dan khawatir, buyut tua itu, memanggil cucunya,  Claire (Tonantzin Carmelo).

Khawatir dengan pembicaraan buyut tua itu tentang monster jahat, Clare meminta Sheriff Elkins (Brian Krause) melakukan pemeriksaan kesehatan.

Sementara itu Claire bergegas bersama kedua anaknya, Bree (Fivel Stewart) dan Ry (Marco Fuller)  mengunjungi buyut mereka itu. Setiba dirumah kusam sang buyut, kakak beradik Bree dan dan Ry menjumpai banyak simbol mistis.
